The Power of Thanksgiving

In many countries around the world, the month of November is considered as a month for thanksgiving. It is a time of introspection and review of the successes and failures we have had during the year.

This month on Innovate Today, we will explore the subject of Thanksgiving and Gratitude. Our hope is to stir up in you a sense of gratitude for life, family and all that you have accomplished in the year so far.

Why Thanksgiving?

November brings to mind the realization that the year is coming to an end. For most people, this begs the question of what one has been able accomplish during the year. One may reflect on those laudable New Year resolutions we made in January and just how many of them have been kept so far. Or when during the year they were abandoned.

Regardless of resolutions and accomplishments, we must remember one simple fact: we are still alive. This is the primary reason why we should be thankful

Gratitude for the Past creates Vision for the Future

As we review how our lives and careers have progressed this year, we need to do it with wisdom. This is because if we are not careful, we may lean towards a concern over the goals we have not achieved, rather than what we have. This is where a positive mentality becomes important. We must be thankful for goals we have achieved and be wise enough to learn from our mistakes and failures.

Today, we consider a quote from Melody Beattie, the beloved author on gratitude:

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

We encourage you to take some time to reflect on your accomplishments and failures this year. However, as you do so, remember to do the following:

  1. Your accomplishments should be reviewed with an attitude of gratefulness
  2. Your failures, should be reflected on with the goal of finding out what mistakes you made so you can learn from them.

What are you thankful for this November? What goals did you set out to achieve this year that you have reached? Also, hat failures did you experience this year? What have you learnt from them? We would love to hear from you. Leave us a comment below.
