So far this month, we have reviewed the meaning of passion and seen how it has the power to make a genius out of anyone. We have also seen how it needs to be balanced with reason like the philosophical Yin and Yang in traditional Chinese culture. That being said, Passion also has the power to create great leaders. In this post, we explore the importance of passion and the role it plays in creating great leaders.

Everything Rises and Falls on Leaders
Today, we consider how passion has the power to create great leaders. In our post last month titled The Courage to Lead, we considered a rather important quote by John C. Maxwell. He said,
Everything rises and falls on leadership.
Among other things, this quote means that if the leader in a family, organization, State or Nation is good, it will reflect. Sadly, it also means that if they are immature or unskilled leaders, it will result in problems.
Interestingly, the second part of this quote explains the following:
…knowing how to lead is only half the battle. Understanding leadership and actually leading are two different activities.
We have come to discover that leadership is much more complex than it appears to be when learning about it. Actual leadership is a lot of work.
The Passion to Lead
While the courage to lead is important, we must understand that passion is also required. Real leaders do not seek for position in order to lead. Instead, they lead from where they are because they are driven by their passion. Their passion to accomplish their purpose and vision draws people to their cause. This is how passion creates great leaders. This is explained by another quote by John C. Maxwell,
A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position.
As we conclude today’s post, we would like to leave you with these thoughts; How are you pursuing your passion? Are you waiting to get a position or title before you start pursuing it? We encourage you to let us know your thoughts on passion and leadership. Leave us a comment in the Comments section below.
